Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are there any deadly animals?
Sure! I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t. The Blue Mountains is home to some of the most venomous snakes in the World, one of which includes the Eastern Brown Snake. It is also home to the Blue Mountains Funnel Web Spider (Yes, you guessed it, it is a very close relative of the more famous Sydney Funnel Web Spider.) Fact: We have been conducting tour for 23 years and taken over 100,000 people to the Blue Mountains and not one single person has ever been bitten by either a snake or spider. So, stop worrying. Back to the TopQ. Are there any aborigines in the Blue Mountains?
If you are expecting to see an aborigine running around in the forest, throwing spears and boomerangs, then I am afraid you are going to be disappointed. These days the aboriginal residents of the Mountains live in houses and pay taxes just like everyone else. Interesting Fact: Even though the Aboriginal culture in Australia can be dated well over 40,000 the aborigines only occupied the upper Blue Mountains during the last 14,000 years. Back to the TopQ. Hey, Mr Tour guide, don’t you get bored of doing the same thing every day?
Only a little, particularly when guests ask this question. Truthfully, the answer would have to be in favour of "no". Apart from contending with Sydney’s traffic to and from the Blue Mountains, our tour guides have one of the most satisfying jobs there is. Why do you think that our guides have been doing it for so many years? They’ll be the first to tell you it is certainly not for the money. Back to the TopQ. How far is it to the Blue Mountains?
From the City Centre (Town Hall) to Katoomba, the unofficial capital of the Blue Mountains, it is approximately one hour and forty five minutes. The distance is approximately 110 kilometres (70 miles) and the direction is west. Q. Can I leave my gear on the vehicle?
Even though our drivers lock the vehicle up when they are away from the bus, it is strongly recommended that you do not leave valuables on the vehicle. So please take our advice and keep your valuables with you. Back to the TopQ. Can we eat and drink on the bus?
If you have a medical condition that requires regular consumption of food then eating on the bus is O.k. otherwise, please refrain from eating and drinking on the bus. Bottled water is O.K. Soft drinks (soda) and coffees are terribly difficult to clean. Q. Are we at the Blue Mountains?
This question isn't really as silly as it may sound to some. Geographically speaking, the Blue Mountains are not actually mountains. They are an extremely large plateau that was elevated hundreds of millions of years ago. Over this time rivers carved out deep gorges to eventually form the valleys that we see today Even though the Blue Mountains are part of the Great Dividing Range, it is probably better to compare them with the canyon complexes of the world, rather than with a mountain range. Now all you have to do is visualise thousands of hectares of forest (mainly eucalyptus), wildflowers, sheer sandstone cliff faces, plunging waterfalls and beautiful parrots.
